There has been much excitement of late about the "All new Twitter". Like all things new, it promises to provide much more, much better, much faster etc. etc. You get the idea! So what is actually happening behind all the buzz or should we say tweet tweet:
New Features
Twitter describes the enhancements as:
1. Enhanced Design - no longer will we need to squint at the narrow Twitter feed at the centre of our Screen. The new Version will have 2 columns. On the left you will have the usual feed- over which there will be new tabs for mentions, retweets, lists and searches. On the right column you will have a summary of recent actions, coupled with trends and favorites. The Expounders like this update and the enhanced usability it provides.
2. Integrated Apps - with the partnership with Vimeo, Flickr, You Tube, etc. You will get a lot more info directly on the Twitter Page. Embedding media will be easy and you will no longer need to lead your followers down the dark and dubious world of the URL Shortner. We really like this feature which will provide users with a lot more immediacy of experience. The frustration index should also drop considerably.
3. On Page Profiling- this enhancement will enable you to quickly see who's who without going off the page. For those of us used to using tools like the Radian6 Engagement Console, this will be a great addition to Twitter and will be of growing importance in the future with the growth in Social Profiling across the social web. Unfortunately the profiling is focused solely on Twitter. You will have to use other Monitoring tools to build up a more complete profile picture.
4. Related Content - with related content Twitter will provide you will related subject and author information. You will even get geotagging data where provided - which will really please all our Gowalla fans and provided followers with additional data.
