Today Google launched their Social Media Tool call "Buzz". For the last weeks the rumor that Google was going to enter the Social Media World started. It is not surprise that the Search Engine Giant is interested in the Social Media. As we know already, Google has been pioneer in different projects and it's interest of exploring different areas has never been a problem for them. I would actually say that Google entered a bit late. Social Media leaders are well established at the moment, but in this online market that is no guaranty at all.
It is interesting if we go back in time and take a look at Google's competitors. First adversaries were Altavista and Yahoo. Later on Microsoft Hotmail and Messenger became also competitors. Office became part of the list and Windows is one of the next target. With the launch of Buzz it is clear that the new competitors are all the Social Media leaders, such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Hi5.
As we already posted an article on that, Facebook already started their Titan Project which will be a fully functional email applcation that will substitute the current messaging system. Google is not the only one taking steps into new areas.
There have been some inital teething problems regarding the publication of contacts. However Google were quick to fix these and eventually they took away the automatic link between your gmail contacts and buzz. There are other issues such as moving old posts to the top, if comments have been recently added. These can all be fixed and Google is typically quick to hear and act on user comments.
Watch out for more Buzz. Albeit late to the game Google means business and you can be assured that there is more to come shortly.
