The 4G network will be a reality by the end of 2010. This new promising network will increase drastically data transfer speeds.
Each new generation comes with a fundamental upgrade to the previous one. 2G offered a digital service compared to the 1G. 3G offer multimedia support. And 4G offers increased data speeds up to 1 Gbits/s for stationary devices and 100 Mbits/s for mobile devices.
The Scandinavian capitals Stockholm and Oslo were the first ones to start implementing this technologies on December 2009. Telia currently offers 4G services in some areas in Stockholm and it's planning to offer the service in other major cities before the end of this year.
This increased speed puts this wireless technology to the same level as other wired technologies. With this, mobile/portable devices will have good internet speed rates everywhere.
4G will burst the already fast growing market of mobile applications, data speed will not longer be a limit. Mobile devices are limited in storage capacity to some extent, but with this high speed rates it will no longer be needed to have everything locally.
On of the areas that will certainly take advantage of this new network will be live stream video on mobile devices. The video applications offered for mobile devices will be able to offer HD quality on their services, a quite good improvement.
Traffic in mobile networks seems to be already a problem. The question is will the infrastructure supporting 4G will support all this traffic. Will we be able to watch HD videos on mobile devices without constant connection or low speed issues?
